A serrated blade gives these steak knives an advantage over any straight edged steak knife. After several uses against a ceramic plate, straight edged blades can become dull and will need to be re-sharpened. If using a serrated edge, many small surfaces are exposed. These surfaces will only ever touch the meat and never come into contact with the plate, resulting in a blade that will not dull for years.
